What to Wear to Your Brand Photoshoot
One of the most common questions I get asked is: “What should I wear?”
The good news is that you don’t need an entirely new wardrobe or a closet full of designer clothes to show up confidently for your brand photoshoot.
The goal isn't to look like someone else. The goal is to look like the most elevated, confident version of you while staying aligned with your brand.
That's why every client receives my Shoot & Style Guide before their session. Inside, I walk you through exactly how to prepare, what to bring, and how to choose outfits that help us create a wide variety of images you'll be able to use for months (or even years) to come.
Here are some of my favorite tips when planning what to wear for your brand photoshoot.
Wear Your Brand Colors
Your brand photos should feel cohesive and aligned to your overall business. One of the easiest ways to do that is by incorporating your brand colors into your wardrobe choices.
This doesn't mean you need to show up dressed head-to-toe in your brand colors. Sometimes a subtle pop of color through accessories, shoes, jewelry, or a handbag is all you need. Other times, a bold blazer, dress, or statement top can make a powerful impact.
Think about how your photos will look on your website, social media, and marketing materials. The more cohesive everything feels, the stronger your brand presence becomes.
Consider Your Brand Vibe
Before you choose an outfit, ask yourself: ‘Does this feel like my brand?’
A power suit might be perfect for a Milwaukee business coach who wants to communicate authority and confidence. But does that align with your business and brand? Just because something looks trendy or stylish doesn't mean it's the right fit for your brand.
The best outfits are the ones that support the story you're trying to tell.
Accessorize
Accessories are often the secret ingredient that pulls an outfit together.
A statement necklace, layered jewelry, a favorite handbag, sunglasses, or even a great pair of shoes can instantly elevate your photos and add personality to your look. These small details help create visual interest and can make your images feel more polished and intentional.
Choose Clothes That Make You Feel Amazing
This might be the most important tip on the entire list.
If you're uncomfortable, you'll see it in your photos. Clothes that are too tight, constantly need adjusting, or simply don't feel like you can impact your confidence without you even realizing it. Instead, choose outfits that make you feel confident, comfortable, and like the best version of yourself.
When you feel good, it shows. That’s what creates natural expressions, genuine confidence, and photographs you'll actually love.
Don't Forget the Details
The little things matter more than most people realize. A few final details to consider before your session:
Professional hair and makeup are highly recommended.
Make sure your clothing is clean, wrinkle-free, and fits properly.
Solid colors tend to photograph beautifully.
Avoid large logos or graphics unless they're part of your own brand.
Get Your Nails Done
There is a very high chance we'll capture close-up images of your hands. You may be holding a coffee mug, typing on your laptop, performing your services, using your phone, or showcasing your products. Chipped polish or neglected nails can become surprisingly noticeable in professional photos. You don't need anything elaborate, but clean, polished nails go a long way.
Remember: These Are Guidelines, Not Rules
If you've worked with me before, you know I'm a bit of a rule breaker. Everything I've shared here is meant to help guide your decisions, not limit your creativity. At the end of the day, your brand photos should feel authentic to you and your business. Take what resonates, leave what doesn't, and remember that my Shoot & Style Guide will help you prepare every step of the way.
My job is to help you show up confidently, feel amazing, and create brand photos that truly represent who you are and where your business is headed.
